Autumn Flavours and Traditions
Sicily food festivals in November are a wonderful way to discover the island through its seasonal flavours, local recipes and food traditions. Autumn brings a different atmosphere to Sicily: chestnuts are freshly harvested, mushrooms appear on local menus and villages celebrate their most beloved products with traditional sagre.
A sagra is a local food festival dedicated to a particular ingredient or speciality. It is much more than a chance to taste traditional dishes: it is an opportunity to meet local communities, discover regional customs and experience the authentic side of Sicilian life.
Sherbeth Festival: A Celebration of Artisanal Gelato in Palermo
Who says gelato is only for summer? Every November, Palermo celebrates one of its most delicious traditions with Sherbeth Festival, the International Artisanal Gelato Festival.
From 13 to 16 November 2026, Piazza Verdi, in front of the Teatro Massimo, will welcome gelato makers from around the world. Visitors can discover creative flavours inspired by local ingredients, including pistachio from Bronte, almonds from Avola, Modica chocolate and Madonie manna.
It is a perfect opportunity to enjoy Palermo’s food scene while discovering the art and creativity behind authentic Italian gelato. Discover the official Sherbeth Festival programme.
Mushrooms and Autumn Flavours in the Nebrodi Mountains
November is also the perfect season to explore the flavours of the Nebrodi Mountains. This area of northeastern Sicily is famous for its forests, traditional cuisine and excellent local products.
One of the autumn events to look out for is the Sagra del Suino Nero e del Fungo Porcino dei Nebrodi, held in Cesarò. The festival celebrates two local specialities: the Nebrodi black pig and porcini mushrooms. Visitors can enjoy traditional dishes and discover the gastronomic heritage of this mountain area.
The 2026 event is scheduled for 7–8 and 14–15 November.
