Carlão Bernini… more than an Artist Residency
Here we are with the second artist residency of the spring, this time with Carlão Bernini from Brazil – @Carlãobernini.

What can we say about Carlão? An infinitely kind and talented person, unlike anyone we have ever met here at A Casa di Amici. His beautiful artwork speaks for itself… but let’s get to know him better!
Who is Carlão Bernini?
He is a visual artist, muralist, illustrator, and graphic designer from the North Zone of São Paulo, Brazil. Passionate about drawing since childhood, he began his journey into the world of graffiti and muralism in 2013, developing his artistic voice through urban experiences, Hip Hop culture, and the streets as spaces for expression and connection.
Known for his strong visual identity, narrative compositions, and highly impactful graphic style, Carlão has built his work through Street Art events, artistic collaborations, and large-scale mural projects, constantly pushing the boundaries of his techniques and aesthetics.
He is the founder of @OdisseiadeTinta, an independent project that has taken him across Brazil and around the world on backpacking art journeys, creating murals and urban interventions while building cultural bridges through public art. Throughout his career, he has painted in 38 countries, as well as in major Brazilian cities, shaping an international path defined by exchange, movement, and artistic freedom.
In addition to his personal work and artistic practice, Carlão is also an educator, leading courses, workshops, and art programs in schools, cultural institutions, and communities, actively contributing to artistic development and the growth of urban culture.
His work reflects a deep commitment to public art as a universal language, a tool for social transformation, and a bridge between cultures.
A few days ago, we found some old flags at the hostel and, together with Carlão, we decided to give them a new life.
As a muralist, he transformed them using spray paint, filling them with colors and eclectic details.
We absolutely love the result… what do you think?
We are fascinated by the idea of giving a second chance to objects we no longer use. It is the same spirit that inspires our recycled musical instrument workshops, which you can discover HERE.

What inspired him?
“I’m traveling all around the world with Posca, who are my partners in Brazil. I contacted the A Casa di Amici hostel and, through the Artist Residency exchange, I’m creating some art. This painting here is a gift for the hostel, entirely inspired by Sicilian culture and Palermo. There are so many things here that I love: the culture, the symbols, the history of this part of Italy! It has been a great pleasure to be here thanks to Claudia.”
Within the artwork, Carlão included the brands he collaborates with, such as Posca and Inquilino. His collaborations with these brands are allowing him to travel the world and leave his art wherever he wishes.
He also added, through small details, many elements of Sicilian culture: lemons, Polyphemus, the Trinacria, pinecones, Moorish heads, the markets, Cefalù, and much more!… try to spot them yourselves in the photo 🙂
